FAQ AND WEDDING TIPS AND TRICKS
I am at a wedding every Saturday so have accumulated much knowledge re: weddings ….. I am still waiting for the day it becomes a topic at Pub Trivia – I’d smash it!
TIPS AND TRICKS:
1. It might sound a tad obvious but my first tip is …. to have fun….the best way to create candid and natural images is to not think too much about the photos and to relax and embrace the sheer awesomeness of the day and have fun with your fav humans.
2. Find moments of stillness together – the day can fly by so quickly, the photo shoot is often the only time you have alone together – make sure you take the time to acknowledge the significance of the day (it’s a big deal!)
3.Stay present – I am a big fan of mindfulness and practicing mindfulness on your wedding day will ensure that it won’t pass by as a series of checkpoints. Being present with each other means that it is easy to capture those raw unguarded moments which create images that will be cherished.
4. Focus on each other – I haven’t met many people who love having their photo taken (sometimes I feel like a dentist rather than a photographer) If you feel shy in front of the camera try looking at and chatting to your beloved while you’re having your photos taken – it will be much easier to get lost in the moment…. then boom…….. magic happens (cos there is magic in your combined energies) and this will be reflected in the images (which I hope serve more as an anchor to the way you felt on the day rather than a product in and of itself.)
QUESTIONS MY LOVELY COUPLES ASK MOST OFTEN:
How much time do we need for photos? This is one I am asked all the time, here is a rough guide (hope it helps) :
1. GETTING READY PHOTOS
Getting ready is a really special part of the day – the nerves, the butterflies in your stomach, them giggles and the in jokes with your besties.
It’s a time for you to reflect on the fact that your big day is actually here. Ideally I would like to spend half an hour with the boys (they don’t do all that much other than drink beer and pay each other out) and an hour to an hour and a half with the girls before you plan to leave for the ceremony.
After the ceremony allow for at least 10 – 15 mins of congratulatory cuddle time – this is the time when everybody is exploding and bubbling over with joy and they will want to share it with you, weddings are very special for the bride and groom but they are also a big deal to those people that love you the most.
After all the cuddles factor in about 20 mins for group and family shots – these photos don’t very take long, but looking for Uncle Bob and Aunty Glor can take a while. It’s often a good idea to nominate a responsible person on each side of the family to be in charge of gathering up rouge family members.
3. BRIDAL PARTY AND COUPLE SHOTS
The best time to have your couple shots is in the hour before sunset, the light is ridiculously good then it makes everyone looks exceptionally gorgeous. Check out this golden hour calculator.
I’d would love an hour with you and your bridal party.
I understand that everyone can’t wait to get to the reception and enjoy a glass of bubbly and some yummy food so I’ll will never keep you longer than is needed.
A good rule of thumb for the reception is to keep the photographer there for about an hour after the formalities finish. An hour of D floor action is usually enough, so work out what time the speeches/cutting of the cake and first dance will wrap up and add an hour to that. Sweet as.
N.B. if you are getting married in Sydney Saturday traffic can be a mofo so make sure you factor that into the run sheet.
WHAT IF IT RAINS ?
Rain is good luck on your wedding day! Some of my favorite images have been taken in the rain. If you happen to be getting married at a particularly rainy part of the year/part of the country it is probably a good idea to get some gumboots for the bridal party – I have stacks of matching umbrellas so there’s no reason why we can’t shoot splashing about in the rain.
ARE YOU AVAILABLE TO TRAVEL INTERSTATE/OVERSEAS ?
Ummmmmm…….. Hells yeah I am ! (I try to keep costs to a minimum especially when quoting for OS weddings – if you are considering me for an OS wedding get in touch and I’ll work out the most cost effective way to work it)
WILL IT JUST BE YOU OR DO YOU SHOOT WITH ANOTHER PHOTOGRAPHER?
I shoot with another photographer about half the time, If you think you might need/want a second shooter I can easily organise this for you.
DO YOU SHOOT SAME SEX MARRIAGES ?
Yep sure do – All love is equal – Love is Love.
HOW LONG TILL WE SEE THE IMAGES ?
4-6 weeks after the wedding I deliver an online gallery with around 600 – 700 images, I also post the high res on disk so that you can print as many image you like.
HOW DO WE BOOK YOU ?
Flick me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org to set up either a Skype, coffee or vino date after which I’ll send you a booking form – easy!
